Dorothy Montgomery received her B.A. in Music Education from Johnson C. Smith University, her Master’s of Music from the University of Georgia and a Master of Education (fellowship) from the College of Charleston. Desiring to improve her creative writing skills, Dorothy took art classes and discovered she could draw a straight line. She used the newly found skill to create art quilts and fabric collages. Her works have been exhibited across the U.S. and in West Africa. In addition, her quilts have been used in concerts, lectures, storytelling, speeches and residencies. A retired public school music teacher, Dorothy Montgomery believes her knack for quilting comes from her maternal great grandmother and her paternal grandmother and she is grateful to have their quilts in her possession.
